The Microchip PIC32MZ microcontrollers are 32-bit microcontrollers based on MIPS or Arm processor architectures, depending on the PIC32 device family. They are designed for a broad range of embedded applications and combine high-performance processing capabilities with integrated memory and a comprehensive set of peripherals.

Supported devices

Refer to the supported device list for a full list of all supported PIC32MZ family devices, their corresponding names and connection diagrams.

Device specific handling

Connect

The device supports ICSP mode which and uses a RAM code for programming.

Reset

The device is reset via MCLR pin.

Security

The device can be protected using the Configuration space inside the Boot area.

Limitations

Supply voltage

The dsPIC33CKxxxMCxxx device family must be powered by 3.3V. If the 5V Flasher output is used as a power supply, then an appropriate voltage regulator must be used.

Device configuration

Due to the extensive configuration options, only one configuration based on data provided by the HEX file is supported.

The Configuration Space resides in the boot area with an offset of 0xFF00 from the bank start address.

The "Lower Boot Alias" is mapped into the "Boot Flash 1" area.
The "Upper Boot Alias" is mapped into the "Boot Flash 2" area.

A "Bulk erase" erases all configuration data.

Troubleshooting

Device ID does not match

At the start of the programming process, the Flasher attempts to connect to the device and read its device ID. Each PIC device has a unique ID.

If a device ID error occurs, there may be several possible causes.

To obtain detailed information on the error, increase the "VerboseOutput" level in the U-Flash configuration to at least "Detailed" and transfer the project to the Flasher again.

caption

Device ID = 00000000 or FFFFFFFF

  1. There is a fault in the wiring
  2. The device is kept in reset by an external reset generator or watchdog
  3. The supply voltage is insufficient

Device ID is wrong

  1. The wrong device was selected in U-Flash
  2. There is another device on the board assembled
  3. The supply voltage is too low and/or the ICSP speed is too high
