Configurator
Configurator (Config.exe) is a cross platform (Windows, Linux and macOS) GUI application to configure certain features of a J-Link, J-Trace and Flasher.
Overview
Configurator is part of both Software and Documentation Packs:
Features
In most cases, no configuration is required, especially when using via USB, as it is designed to work out-of-the-box. If required, the following settings can be changed via Configurator:
- Re-configuring older probes or programmers to be identified by their real serial number when enumerating on the host PC (required when connecting > 3 older probes or programmers to one host pc)
- Configuration of the IP settings (use DHCP, IP address, subnet mask, ...) of a probe or programmer supporting the Ethernet interface
- Enabling/Disabling VCOM functionality, if supported.
- Updating the firmware of multiple probes or programmers connected via USB or TCP/IP easily.
- Adding a nickname to a probe or programmer.
Product configuration
J-Link, J-Trace and Flasher can be configured easily by selecting the appropriate probe or programmer from the list and using right click -> Configure or double-clicking it.
Nickname
A nickname can be assigned to a connected probe or programmer to make it easier to recognize. This nickname will also be shown in the device selection dialog.
Boot mode
The boot mode settings allows switching between J-Link and CMSIS-DAP modes.
- To configure boot mode for J-Link, select "J-Link".
- To configure boot mode for CMSIS, select "CMSIS".
A probe reset is required after changing this configuration. Full guide on how to change boot mode: J-Link CMSIS-DAP mode
The boot mode setting is only available on newer J-Link models. Refer to the J-Link model overview for more information.
Eco mode
Refer to the Eco mode article article for more information.
VCOM
The VCOM setting allows to enable or disable the virtual COM port feature. A probe reset is required after changing this configuration.
VCOM configuration is only available for J-Links. Refer to the Flasher virtual COM port article for more information about Flasher VCOM.
DHCP and IP
This feature is only available for probes and programmers with an Ethernet interface. To manually configure the IP settings of the connected emulator, under IP Configuration click on Manual.
Server
The servers hosted by the emulator (e.g., Web, Telnet, and FTP) can be enabled or disabled via checkboxes.
Configuring USB driver
This setting only affects the driver used on Windows host systems.
To configure the SEGGER legacy USB driver for a probe or programmer, select "SEGGER" (requires emulator reset)
To configure the WinUSB driver, which is installed per default on modern Windows systems, select "WinUSB" (requires emulator reset)
